Steeton 2024/25 Presentation Evening

STEETON brought the curtain down on the 2024/25 season with the club’s annual Presentation Evening.

The well attended event, held at club sponsors Steeton Hall, proved a memorable occasion at the end of a disappointing campaign on the pitch.

The main prize, the David Baxter Trophy for the Steeton AFC Player of the Year, went to Macca Smith.

Joining last summer from Barnoldswick Town, Smith made the right back position his own in a campaign that returned two goals and six assists from his 34 appearances.

Club captain Arley Barnes was also a winner, taking home the Player’s Player of the Year accolade after being nominated the standout performer by his fellow teammates.

Returning to Marley for his third spell with the club from Silsden during pre-season, ‘Barney’ recorded two goals and two assists from his 35 appearances.

Speaking of goals, a return of 14 from 32 appearances proved enough for the Golden Boot to be awarded to Josh Debenham.

The final playing squad award was voted for by members of the Steeton AFC Supporters Club, Club Chevron.

Brad Emmerson made history as the winner of the inaugural Club Chevron Player of the Year after impressing between the sticks following his arrival in October from Campion.

Club Chevron co-founder Matthew Tanner found himself leaving with an award in the shape of the Archie Airdrie Clubman of the Year.

Tanner, who did not miss one of the Chevrons games throughout the season, not only oversaw the running of Club Chevron but assisted the club behind the scenes with matchday secretarial duties and helping organise the upcoming Junior Football Tournament at Marley Stadium.

The final award of the evening was a special recognition accolade presented to Michael Ferguson.

‘Fergie’ is departing the Chevrons this close season after an unprecedented 35-year spell as Club Treasurer, with his spell at the club spanning 38 years with a three-year playing stint preceding the treasurer role.

Club Manager Roy Mason and Chairman Stewart Airdrie also paid tribute to all the club’s volunteers and sponsors.

This included a toast in the memory of Stephen ‘Fozzy’ Foster, the club volunteer who sadly passed away in October of last year.
