Some things just don’t go right, and that was Steeton’s game from the off. They could never really get going with mishaps happening all throughout the game.

Another loss for the Chevrons with a disappointing couple first months of the 2024-25 season but this could be the worst one to date.

Even with the very-off sunshine and rainbows and the heavens opening, this could not be contributed to the lackluster game.

Some back-and-forth action in the opening minutes caused both teams to create good chances including Jacob Smith (Steeton’s number 8) goes to do a rainbow flick and instead plays it into the Maghull defender’s feet.

He also got given the first yellow card of the game not much long later (and one of the only ones given).

In the 18th minute, Maghull chucked in some dangerous corners in quick succession until Darren Brannigan (Maghull’s number 9) wacks the ball into the Chevron’s defender which causes the ball to get deflected into the back of Steeton’s goal.

Maghull kept the momentum going with Jacob Till (Maghull’s number 11) hitting it from 20 yards out back into the bottom corner.

This started the timewasting game from Maghull which would not stop for the rest of this game which included Harrison Worden leaving the ball anytime the ball went near him to the point where the ball had to be chucked right in front of his face to actually continue the play with their throw in.

Towards the end of the first half, Maghull puts an early cross in that gets headed home by Maghull’s number 7 Marcus Stewart.

Similar start to the first half. Is there some hope for Steeton? Maybe.

Until Catlow makes a wholehearted save to deny Maghull with getting a fourth, but can this hope click onto the rest of the team?

No. Maghull have that fourth from a header a point-blank range but it gets given for offside.

A piece of hope for Roy Mason’s side as he made the first of two changes but what impact can they make?

AND it does not take much longer as a quick counter-attack with their very next attack as the ball gets played out wide and gets put straight back into Steeton’s box until a well defended shot gets deflected back into Brannigan’s feet which gets slotted into the net.

Consequently, the ball bounces around the Steeton box, plays it out to the far side of the pitch, gets crossed back in and comes off the knee of Darren Brannigan which completes his hat-trick. This must be over now for Steeton to come back…

…WAIT! A slither of hope for the Chevrons as the keeper could not clear the ball from the header and Steeton’s super sub, Josh Debenham holds the ball up superbly until he finds the right opportunity to take his chance and put it into the back of the empty goal. Is it too late to come back?

Moments later, a surrey of chances is found upon by the Steeton faithful who all get squandered past the posts. Is this too little too late?

This completely stopped as Steeton’s shot-stopper James Catlow reached low and made an emphatic save that dragged the ball past the posts for a corner.

This is the saving grace that Steeton were going for this entire game.

Shortly after, Maghull has a throw in, but it seemed like it never came into play as Maghull get to retake it but should of this been Steeton’s ball?

There was no more coming back as Robbie McDonald had to make it 6 to put the game to bed.

Overall, many questions will be being asked of Steeton as Maghull takes all three points back to Merseyside.

Steeton sits just outside the relegation zone in 15th place whilst the opponents Maghull are trying to push towards the Promotion Playoff picture sitting in 10th place as it currently stands.

But could Squires Gate VS Steeton in the 1 st round of the Macron Cup at the Brian Addison Stadium on Tuesday 15 th October at 19:45 put the Chevrons back into the right direction?
