Matt Barnes Joins The Chevvies

Steeton AFC are today delighted to announce the arrival of Matt Barnes as the club’s new Assistant Manager.

Replacing Jacob Mistry, who departed Marley earlier this week to fill the managerial vacancy at Ilkley Town, Barnes brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Matt has previously served as the manager of Maine Road, Daisy Hill, Prestwich Heys, Northwich Victoria, and Barnoldswick Town.

During his time at Barlick, he served as manager under current Chevvies Chairman Stewart Airdrie when he was in the some position across the county border.

Manager Roy Mason said of his new number two: “I am delighted that Matt is joining us.

“He is someone I have known for a long time and brings with him not just a wealth of experience but also knowledge and contacts from throughout the game.

“I am excited to bring him to Marley and can’t wait to get going with who will prove to be a huge asset to the club.”

Barnes added: “I am looking forward to getting back to what I love after a year out.

“When the opportunity came to work with Roy, who I have been friends with for many years, and be apart of what I know Steeton are about was a no brainer.

“I am also looking forward to working with Stewart Airdrie once again.

“I can’t wait to be bringing some ideas and hopefully help the team progress as much as we can on the field.

“I’m aware of the quality that’s already within the squad and now it’s time to support Roy as best I can.

“Let’s get to work, Chevvies!”

Matt is available to sponsor for the 2025/26 season, please contact the club for more information.
