STEETON rescued a much needed point with a battling draw away at Maine Road.
Conceding with five minutes left of regulation time, it appeared that Roy Mason’s side were set to fall to a fourth consecutive defeat.
However, a last minute penalty from Josh Coe secured a share of the spoils.
The game’s early exchanges proved to be an open affair with both sides having chances to score the first goal of the afternoon.
Steeton came close first, Josh Coe seeing his effort with just ninety seconds on the clock deflected onto the crossbar and over for a corner.
At the other end, an outstanding triple block from Keann Shaw kept the game goalless and the ball eventually deflected wide for a corner.
The resulting set-piece bobbled up off the difficult surface and was somehow cleared from the line amongst the chaos amongst a sea of bodies by Arley Barnes.
Adam Terrelonge then could have opened the scoring for Steeton as he skipped through a number of challenges but hesitated with the strike allowing the hosts to recover and clear the danger.
Maine Road would be the team that broke the deadlock as the Steeton backline switched off and Nathan Storton’s header could only find Siraj Hussein to turn the ball home from close range.
On half-time, the visitors were denied what they believed was a clear penalty.
Working the ball down the right channel, Macca Smith worked his way into the box.
The winger had his standing leg taken from beneath him as he looked to get a shot off, the referee and linesman though both remained unmoved by the appeals.
The beginning of the second half was a low quality affair with both sides struggling to settle.
Midway through the half, the visitors found their equaliser as they continued the story of their season to date in attack with set-piece brilliance.
Kobe Mulvilhill-Simpson, fresh from the bench as he returned from a back problem, floated a lovely delivery from deep towards the edge of the six-yard box.
Nobody in either sky blue or green and white made a move with the exception of Coe.
The forward read both the ball and the attempted offside trap superbly to find himself unmarked and unchallenged to head into the bottom corner.
Both sides were now pushing for what they hoped would be a winner and the hosts thought they had found that crucial goal when a run into the box was not picked up and Calvin Harper took advantage with a ferocious strike at the near post.
Now chasing an equaliser rather than a winner, the Chevrons knew that time was running out.
A tussle between the midfields saw the ball pop out from amongst a tangle of legs into the path of Alfie Dowden.
The left-back cut inside from the channel into the area and was tripped from behind as he looked to get a shot away, the official immediately pointing to the spot.
Coe took hold of the ball and with it the penalty.
Sam Jones in the Maine Road goal got a hand to the strike, but the power from the Steeton number nine proved too much as the ball went inside the post to again level up the scoreboard.
Steeton then had a chance to snatch all three points deep into injury time.
Harvey Green, making his first appearance for the club since March 2025 following a lengthy injury lay-off, flicked the ball into the path of debutant Charlie Howard.
Howard worked his way into the box, but his effort was straight down the throat of Jones.
