Steeton AFC can this evening confirm Michael Ferguson has announced that he will step down as club treasurer following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
Ending a 35-year association with the club, ‘Fergie’ has held a number of roles across the club during his tenure with the Chevrons but will now depart the club upon the end of the current campaign.
Initially joining the club as a player, Michael took on the treasurer role at the club and combined it with his playing commitments on a Saturday afternoon.
However, with injury forcing his retirement from playing, Ferguson remained with the club and took on the treasuer role in a full time capacity.
Continuing his role behind the scenes following retirement, he has played a huge role in the rise and transformation of the club.
During Michael’s time with the club, Steeton have risen from playing County Amateur football at Summerhill Lane to the semi-professional ranks where the Chevvies now regularly feature in the North West Counties Football League out of Marley Stadium.
Everyone here at Steeton AFC would like to thank ‘Fergie’ for his tireless work and commitment to the club during the past three and a half decades, and wish him all the best in the future once he leaves the club.
The club is now looking to recruit a successor with the role suiting an individual with previous experience in this role and/or a financial capacity.
Ideally, the club would like to appoint a successor before the end of the season in order to allow to work alongside Michael and ensure a smooth transition into the 2025/26 season.
