Steeton Apply For Step 6 Football
The club is delighted to confirm that we have applied for promotion to Step 6 for next season.
Given how the club has progressed both on and off the field we feel that this is now the right time for us to look to push the club to the next level.
We had an initial ground grading meeting with the North West Counties Football League in November and it became clear that Summerhill Lane would not be in a position to meet the criteria set out by the FA for Step 6 football. The main issues were the size of the pitch and concerns that we would not be granted planning permission for floodlights.
After this news we approcahed Keighley Cougars to discuss the possibility of a ground share. We were delighted when they agreed to our proposal and this will mean, should our application be successful that the first team will play their home games at Cougar Park from the 2018/19 season.
This move will benift both clubs as it allows Cougar Park to be a multi purpose sports venue and also will ensure that the stadium is used 12 months of the year now that Rugby League is a summer sport.
The club would like to thank Gary Fawcett and the board of directors at Keighley Cougars for their help in the application process.
At this stage we must stress that this is just an application and we are in the hands of the FA. At this stage we cannot give a time frame for further news as the FA are embarking on a number of re structure's for the 2018/19 season.
The plan will be for the reserves and U18 sides to continue to play at Summerhill Lane and the U19's will continue to play mid week at UAK.
