David Baxter (1934-2017)
It is with a heavy heart that the club has today heard the news that club president, David Baxter passed away in the early hours of this morning following a short illness.
David was born in 1934 and joined the club in 1948 as a player and went on to become club treasurer and was the driving force behind the clubs fundraising and played an integral part in the clubs move to Summerhill Lane in 1969.
The club only last month recognised David’s achievements to the club with the unveiling of a plaque and a lunch at Steeton Hall.
Everyone at the club sends David’s family their sincere condolences at this sad time.
It was a dramatic day at Lower Hopton as Steeton came from behind to win the game in dramatic fashion.
After going a goal behind Andy Briggs levelled only for the home side to regain the lead straight from the kick off. With time running down Sam Rooke swept home Toby Jeffrey's cross in the 91st minute. The drama was not over as Andy Briggs headed home Joe Park's cross in the 95th minute to seal the points.
Greig Hudson and a Brannan Lawn brace saw the reserves beat Tingley 3-1.
The U18's increased their lead at the top of the table with a 14-0 win at Menston.
Past and present staff of Steeton AFC met at Summerhill Lane last Sunday for the unveiling of a plaque to mark the dedicated service given to the club by David Baxter.
David joined the club as a player in 1948 and is a past treasurer and remains the club's President. A buffet lunch for those present was then served at Steeton Hall.
