Good win for the Chevrons

Fri 22 Jul 2016

The Chevrons faced a very strong Colne FC side last night at Summerhill Lane and came away with a 2-0 win after a very good performance.

The visitors started off brightly playing some nice one touch football and it took Steeton 10 minutes to get to grips with the game, but once they did there was no looking back. Steeton settled on the ball and began to play some very good football causing their Evo-Stik opponents some real problems.

The deadlock was broken after 25 minutes, great play down the left hand side from Oliver Hunter and Joe Park carved open the defence, Park then found Lee Thompson at the edge of the area who made no mistake in finding the bottom left hand corner. Steeton continued to press with an impressive work rate and should have doubled their lead through Graham Holmes whose shot was saved following an excellent touch and turn in the box. The visitors never really troubled the home defence and their only two chances came from corners but keeper Wayne Mahomet was in good form to keep them at bay.

The second half started the same as the first finished with Steeton playing at a really good tempo and despite making several changes at half time they continued to dominate. Despite their good play and possession, they had to wait until the 75th minute for their second goal. Sam Fox collected the ball 25 yards out on the left hand side, looked up, saw the keeper of his line and found the top right hand corner, was it a shot or was it a cross only Sam will know! This was no more than the Chevrons deserved and the game with a very good win.

It was a very good performance from all involved, with the impressive work rate being key to the win and will only serve to increasing fitness levels for the coming season.

A big thank you must go to Steven Cunningham and his Colne FC side and we wish them all the best for the coming season.
